The Spinning Wheel @ Griffin’s Garden Centre can be found in the heart of the picturesque Lee Valley, Cork, where the restaurant offers a relaxed dining experience with a contemporary take on traditional cookery.

Situated on the bank of the Dripsey river just before it joins the River Lee, The Spinning Wheel is the perfect place to savour a gourmet meal or enjoy afternoon tea with friends. Arrive in the morning and you will be greeted by the smell of Granny Griffin’s freshly baked bread, scones, tarts, and pies. Her traditional recipes remain unchanged after many, many years and have stood the test of time and are a closely-guarded family secret.

Named for the local village’s connection to the Irish textile industry, The Spinning Wheel and adjoining garden centre are very much a part of the fabric of local life here, beloved by locals and tourists alike.

This restaurant overlooks the Dripsey river, which was man-made for the purpose of producing hydroelectric energy at Inniscarra dam. A short distance downstream lie the underwater ruins of the mill, a cheese factory and Dripsey House, an estate house belonging to the Colthurst family. Historically, the area was a hive of activity, hosting agricultural students from major English centres of learning. Nowadays, the award-winning Griffin’s Garden Centre has revitalised the area, thanks in no small part to Granny Griffin’s famous baked goods.

Here, there is a firm belief that traditional methods are key and the secret ingredient is love for the food.

The restaurant is bright and airy with diners surrounded by glass, showcasing the natural beauty of the local area. In summer, diners can sit outside and enjoy the activity on the water. On warm days, you can almost imagine you’re on the French Riviera watching water skiers on the river below. The food is every bit as good as the views, with The Spinning Wheel serving up breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea, as well as light bites like sandwiches and salads. Whether you choose self-service or table service, you’ll always be met with a friendly smile and outstanding value for money. This is a spot that’s not to be missed.

Dishes, desserts, baked goods and more are made fresh each day in house at the Spinning Wheel Restaurant. Locally sourced ingredients are used throughout the food offering.
