OverviewThe Kitchen @ Gorey’s space is a showcase for some great local food. The well constructed menu, which suits all tastes, features a bevy of local producers from fish merchants to a soft fruit farmer and cheese maker.
Cathy Farrell is the face behind The Kitchen @ Gorey. This dynamic woman has pooled her hospitality experience and business brains with a natural love of good food to create a restaurant with wholesome local produce at its heart. Cathy’s life experiences have given her the tools to run a successful business. This started off with studying at catering college in Dublin, then working in the industry before managing front of house at the restaurant that used to occupy the same space that now houses The Kitchen. When the former closed and the property became vacant, Cathy didn’t miss her chance to make her mark on the local food scene.
Cathy had always loved the space here and felt it could make a fantastic showcase for local foods. Menus are well constructed and based on the team’s global dining experiences. At lunch there is a choice of fabulous fresh salads and sandwiches, plus hot dishes, family favourites, blackboard specials and sweet treats. Great value is to be had in all areas, with a lightning lunch selection for those in a hurry.
At dinner, the charcoal grill and wood fired oven are fired up for traditional style pizzas and other flavoursome delights. There’s also a selection of hearty meals plus a daily pie, savoury tart or salad. A cute menu for the little ones means kids under twelve can also enjoy smaller portions of their favourites.
Sunday roast is gaining iconic status among locals and visitors to the town, with Irish beef, chicken, or pork served with all the trimmings and billowing Yorkshire puddings.
In keeping with menu presentation, the wine list is easy to navigate and well thought out, with offerings by the glass, carafe, or bottle. Irish craft beers and cider and European beers extend the choice.
All this is enjoyed in an alternatively designed, industrial-style space with an open kitchen. The informal, relaxed feel will appeal to families as well as those wishing for a more intimate dining experience.
The Kitchen’s philosophy is a humble one: to create simple but refined dishes using only the very best local, Irish, seasonal, fresh, and organic ingredients.
