Blairs Inn in Blarney, Cork, is a family-owned haven of locally sourced food, cooked to the highest of standards. There is also a great selection of local craft beers and ciders too.

In Cork, just a few short miles outside Blarney, you’ll find Blairs Inn. It’s immediately recognisable with its whitewashed walls adorned with blooming hanging baskets. Blairs Inn is pretty as a picture and like something you would see on a postcard.

Richard and Duncan Blair now head up the pub their parents ran for quite some years. Richard works front of house and is a wonderful host, while his brother Duncan is Head Chef. Both brothers are committed to the use of local produce, which is the mainstay of the menus, and they also take pride in the super selection of wines and other beverages on the menu.

Dining in Blairs Inn give you a taste of Cork in a friendly, relaxed and very pretty bar and restaurant.

Blairs Inn has a warm and cosy traditional Irish pub atmosphere. The bar is friendly and welcoming with a warm fire and relaxed feel. Diners just enjoying a pint and the newspaper are mingled with those who come here for a hearty meal made from the finest local ingredients. You’re not a stranger in town here.

Food is served in the bar area, where many regulars prefer to sit and eat, but if you want a more formal restaurant style atmosphere The Snug is just down a step to the left. The Snug is a charming room to wile away the hours with good company to match the good food and drink.

In summer, you’re likely to find Duncan firing up the barbecue out the back where there’s a lovely outdoor patio with a canopy just in case rains or if it gets too hot. You have to be prepared for four seasons in one day in these parts. There are also picnic tables on the grass, which leads down to the River Owenageara. Translated back into the original Irish this is means Sheep River and while you might not see any sheep in there you could well see some trout.

Duncan and Richard are committed to the use of local produce, which is the mainstay of the menus. Much of the produce is sourced within a 20-mile radius which means that food miles are drastically reduced. The menus feature firm-favourites and Irish classics like slow-cooked beef stew, bangers and mash, fresh fish and vegetarian dishes. This is proper pub food in the truest of sense. Portion sizes are generous too – this is Cork afterall, they know how to feed people here!

Desserts are hard to resist – and why would you want to? Treat your tastebuds, and tummy, to scrumptious house specials and modern creations including banoffee pie, bread and butter pudding and warm apple tart. Talk about comfort food!

There is also a full bar service and a wonderful wine list with not just your standard bottles. There are some nice surprises on there too. There are also plenty of bottled beers and cider from Cork craft brewers. The food and drinks really are a showcase for the best in regional produce.

Blairs Inn is a superb place to eat and drink and it is worth making it a stop here on your journey to the area. In fact, it is totally worth detouring to no matter where you are in the country.

Blairs Inn is committed to sourcing its produce as locally as possible and keeping food miles low.
