OverviewAqua Restaurant in the village of Howth in North Dublin is home to splendid seafood and stunning seaside views.
If there were a prize for the most spectacular restaurant views in Dublin, Aqua Restaurant in Howth would surely win.
Perched at the very end of the west pier in Dublin’s lively fishing village, Aqua is housed on the first floor of a former yacht club-house and one entire wall is made of glass which gives diners a magical view over the water and the neighbouring islands.
Any time of day here is a visual treat. On a stormy day, watch the rain and wind whipping up the waves. On clear days, the sunset is spellbinding – casting a warm glow and a kaleidoscope of colour over the dining room. The three proprietors of Aqua are all keen Dublin sailors, so it is no wonder they chose this historic location for their restaurant venture.
Aqua’s contemporary dining room has a subtle nautical theme which compliments this seaside setting. Day or night, there is a relaxed but elegant ambience enhanced by the dapper staff and their smart service.
The dining room has an open serving counter where you can see each tempting plate as it appears. Wait till you clasp eyes on the seafood platter, it is a treat. Be warned, as each dish passes you by you’ll want to order it.
Visitors and locals alike fill the dining room with friendly chatter as they indulge in some locally caught, flappingly fresh fish. The menu also features herbs and vegetables form the restaurant’s kitchen garden. Seasonal Irish game also makes an appearance on the menu as well as chicken, lamb and beef. So there is something here to excite all palates including children too who get their own menu. Desserts are tempting so too are the accompanying dessert wines. The main wine list so offers a terrific selection of new and old world wines.
There is a good value set lunch menu, so you can enjoy the best of Aqua as part of a two or three-course deal.
Appropriately named, Aqua lives up to its reputation as one of the finest seafood restaurants in Ireland. The service is friendly and attentive, making it a wonderful place to eat in Dublin.
Please note that Aqua Restaurant is open on Mondays for the summer season.
When it comes to sustainability, Aqua Restaurant uses local ingredients in all dishes. Much of the fish on the menu is caught locally and salads come from a local restaurant garden on Howth Hill.
