Dungarvan is home to one of Ireland’s top restaurants and tv celebrity chefs. Paul Flynn’s The Tannery, which he has run with his wife since the late 1990’s is a pace setter when it comes to Irish local food with a twist. Paul is the author of several books on the subject – their pages feature recipes which reflect the chef’s ethos of using the best of Irish and adding to it with his own unique cooking style. Round the corner from the restaurant, a Townhouse accommodation means if you want to travel here for dinner you can make a night of it too. The Flynn’s have driven the food reputation of Dungarvan since their earliest days in residence in a building that used to be a tannery – hence the name. But the pair never sit on their haunches. There’s always a new venture to explore! A new way to bring great food to their regulars and visitors. They’ve done exactly that recently, with the addition of a smart wine bar to the restaurant. The Tannery Wine Bar is located in what used to be the lobby and lounge waiting area for the restaurant. Couches have been replaced with contemporary bar and high stool seating, giving a very comfortable and chillaxed place to have a glass or two. A superbly priced great value for money menu of nibbles, snacks and small bites compliments the brilliantly put together wine list, which has wines by the glass, carafe or bottle. This little addition to The Tannery offering makes it very affordable to enjoy some of the best food and wine in the land on Monday to Thursday evenings.
