Meet The Maker
Rademon Estate Distillery is nestled within the heart of the historic 500-acre estate in Co. Down, founded in 2012 by Fiona and David Boyd-Armstrong. The husband and wife team set out to create a gin with a vision of redefining what an Irish gin should and could be while becoming the first gin to be distilled in Northern Ireland. Their small batch philosophy means that everything is crafted and perfected by hand.
Rademon Estate Distillery’s first spirit, Shortcross Gin, was released in April 2014 and is inspired by its surroundings of lush gardens and forest fauna. Shortcross was created to be a classical gin with a unique twist; best described as floral meadows, wild berries and grassy notes. It is highly aromatic with an exceptionally long and smooth finish.
Apples are picked from the estate’s walled gardens, while ingredients such as juniper, citrus peels and coriander are then blended with Rademon Estate’s very own pure, freshwater drawn from their historic estate well.
Here, they hand bottle and wax dip each and every bottle. The process may be slow but it’s a true craft.
Following on from the success of Shortcross Gin, the first casks of their Irish Whiskey were laid down at Rademon Estate Distillery in 2015. Their whiskies are double distilled on bespoke copper pot stills to create a fuller-bodied spirit. The distillery is also focusing on the innovative use of cereals and cask selection to create new flavour profiles. There’s also Shortcross Rosie’s Garden Gin; a pink gin packed with Strawberries and Raspberries.
