OverviewLocated on Dublin’s bustling Custom Quay, Ely Bar & Grill is a popular dining spot for locals and visitors alike looking for a vibrant and casual place to enjoy some terrific Irish food and wines from around the world. With its al fresco seating area, this is also a perfect, and popular, spot for people watching and watching the sun set over the river Liffey.
Whatever the occasion, or with none at all, this is the perfect venue for discovering the hubbub of city. Situated in the vibrant Dublin Docklands area alongside the river Liffey, Ely Bar & Grill is housed within a beautifully restored, grade-one listed building, which was built in 1820.
Ely’s Cellar Bar and Atrium Bar both serve a great selection of Irish whiskeys, beers, creative cocktails, and of course, excellent wines. When it comes to food, think dry aged steaks flame grilled over natural charcoal, fresh Irish seafood and local vegetables.
Let’s start with the wines, shall we?
The team behind Ely Bar & Grill has a passion for sourcing great wine. Even though there is a full bar offering here, wine is at the centre of that offering. A wonderful experience is walking around the restored cellars of what was once the warehouse of Dublin’s Custom and Excise department and having a browse at the rare and exquisite fine wines. As you can imagine, the wine list is extensive with most bottles sourced via artisan producers from around the world. You’ll have a ball of a time discovering some new favourites.
The menu and sourcing of the ingredients that go into the dishes is just as carefully considered as the wine. Ely Bar & Grill is committed to food provenance. All beef, pork and lamb are locally sourced and everything, including the fresh, locally caught seafood and fresh vegetables, is prepared in-house daily.
The menus are eclectic and dishes vary depending on whether you are ordering from the lunch, weekend lunch, dinner, set-dinner, pre-theatre or bar bites menu. All dishes, whichever you choose, are fresh, flavourful, creative and artfully presented.
As with everything at Ely, service is efficient and attentive. Staff are well versed in the produce of the locality as well as the extensive wine offering. You’ll find wine matching menus, but you can’t beat chatting to a member of staff about what they think goes best with your choice of food.
During the summer months, the outdoor terraces at Ely are usually teeming. You have to arrive early to grab a seat!
Ely Bar & Grill has a firm ‘pasture to plate’ ethos and the seasonal menus feature ingredients that are locally sourced.
